Would you like to let others know about the corpora or help develop some materials for the corpora?

  • If you have the technical ability, you can help develop some tutorials. We’d like to develop some short, simple tutorials for using the corpora, which we’d make available on the corpus websites or on YouTube or similar sites. We'd particularly like to do this for other languages (e.g. Chinese or Arabic speakers using the English corpora). If you are familiar with Flash or a screen-to-video creation tool and would be interested in helping with this, please let us know.

  • If you have 30 seconds to spare, you can help to advertise the corpora.

Because these corpora are some of the largest and most diverse corpora in existence (in addition to being free!), we want to make sure that others know about them. But for some search terms on Google, other resources have a higher page rank than our corpora, simply  because those resources have been around for a longer time. So we'd like to help our corpora move up the page rankings.

At Google and elsewhere, page rankings are determined in part by how many people click on the links for different search terms. You can help by just clicking on a link or two. Enter a Google search like corpora or corpus or corpora english or corpus spanish, and if you find this page (or else one of our corpora) listed, then click on that link. (In some cases, you might have to go to the second or third page of links to find this site listed).

In addition, rankings at Google and elsewhere are in part a function of the number of links to a site. Although this might take a minute or two, please consider creating links to this corpus on your individual or institutional web pages. Just make sure that your page has a link to another page that is already being indexed by Google, and then create a link on that page to the our corpus page at: http://corpus.byu.edu (or one of the individual corpora).

Sometimes it takes a while to move up the Google listings, but it looks like we're already on the first page of links for some of these searches, and we're actually even at the top for some of the corpora. Let's see if within a couple of months more we can move to the top for general searches like corpus and corpora as well.

Thanks for your help.
